Lavender Festival in Texas
After finding out there is a Lavender Festival 4 hours from Houston, my family and I decided to go there on Saturaday. After went into work briefly during the morning, we set out to Beckers Vineyard around 12pm. I felt asleep shortly in the car and wake up when my parents are looking at the map. Thinking back, I should have look up direction but I just keep thinking it's close to San Antonio and I can wait until I am close to San Antonio before I have to look at firections :P It turns out that the Vineyard it's close to Austin and we should have taken another highway. After consulting the map, mom figures out a way to get there but we got on a highway loop without knowing it and end up making a big circle!
So after driving for 5 hours, we finally arrived at our destination, Stonewall, TX. The vineyard building is beautiful and the place is packed with vendor and people. We went into the main lobby and right away we were offered wine. And ofcourse, Yi got carded again :P I didn't, but that's probably because I am with my parents, hehe....
Ok, and I will have to advertise for Beckers Vineyard's wine, especially the Texas Port, it's a sweet red one with great taste, my whole family love it. I also like like their Sauvergnon reserve, it's very nice, too. We end up buying 8 bottles of wine even though our intention is to see the Lavender field :P
And that bring up another sad fact, as it turns out, Lavender is just not blooming this past weekend, so sad.... and the field is quiet small compare to the one I saw before in Hokkaido, Japan. I guess compare to Hokkaido & Providence, Texas is too hot to grow Lavender. I was also trying to get Lavender product for Christine, but most of the stuff is generic brand you can get anywhere, that's also sad, too.... The only thing that's unique is the Lavender Chocalate, but it's only sold by the chef who left ~2pm.... so, no lavender for christine and I... :(
And after that, we drove to San Antonio and went to Riverwalk for a nice and fun dinner. I will write more of my weekend, for now, gotta go work!

so when is the season for it anyway? august?
I do love those red wines :) They say you can call to order them. Too bad Spec don't stock those nice red wine.
oh! i read that the flowers typically bloom july-aug. and the plants like very dry and hot climate (like around mediterrean region). i wonder if tx is indeed too hot (but medi gets HOTTTTT too!) and centra tx is very dry...
The lavenders in Japan bloom really nicely during july and the weather there was like 70s, so I am guess that's why I don't see fields after field of lavender... not sure about the weather in provence, gotta find out about that.
hmmm, maybe we should go there during july/aug again!
