New BSRB open house
I just went to the new Basic Science Research Builiding open house here at MD Anderson in Houston. It's such a nice building with great equipment and the best animal facility! (Sorry, I am all about the animal facility now since I spent so much time there). The sad thing is that my dept is not moving, but after seeing the floor plan, I understand the reasons behind the department. All the labs that are moving there lost a lot of space compare to what they have now. Although the idea of open lab space and shared common space is nice, there are lots of drawback. One obvious thing is that the radioisotope area is in the corner of one lab, so in order for other lab members to get there, they have to walk right across a lab. I don't think that's the safest way to do it. Anyway, that will not be my problem since I am not moving. But 7th floor below me in my current builiding is moving, so maybe I will get even more space here! Yeah! :)
