First day of work tomorrow

November 1st will be my first day of working! Well, it's really exciting since it's nice to have a job, but it's kind of sad at the same time since now I no longer have the privilage of sleep in :P I guess that's the price I have to pay to become a OL (Office lady, japanese way of saying career woman). Ok, gotta go sleep now, bus leaves 6:02AM tomorrow, really early... why do I live in a suburb... sigh....

I want to go to a Halloween party

I want to go to a Halloween party, I want to dress up! Some people I know are going to one and it sounds like fun (they live in another state). And I guess it doesn't leave me much time to find a costume with Halloween being this Sunday. Oh well, maybe next year....

I miss Disney World

I just got back from Disney World tonight and I miss it already. Since Lucy worked there during 2000-2001 and is currently again employed by Disney, my family and I go visit Orlando many times :P We stayed in their new economic resort "Pop Century" this time, my building, the 50's era, is painted lavender color. You would think I love my hotel building because lavender is my favorite color, but no, when it covers the whole 500 rooms building, it looks quite ugly! During my four days trip there, we spent most of our time in Epcot since there is a food and wine festival there. I ate so many different type of food from many different country and also tried many different types of alcohols. Needless to say, I over-eat on many occasions and is in serious need of getting on South Beach Diet again, hehe.... Also, I decided to get annual pass to Disney World now since it's very likely that I will visit Disney World again within the next year and it's more economical to do that. So, if anyone wants to go, let me know! Ok, it's late, gotta get some sleep. Go Red Sox!

Please let the Red Sox win tonight!

Oh please please please let the Red Sox win tonight, I so want to see Yankees' face when they lose, right now it's bottom of the 9th, Red Sox leading 10, two out, please, only one more out!

A breaking up website

I just found out about this website from my Cosmo magazine, www.breakupnews.com, you can actually break up with someone on the website. Weird, isn't it? :P

Japanese horror film

"The Grudge", a re-make of 2003 famous Japanese horror film, got me thinking just now. From the preview, you will see a crawling female ghost. What's up with the Japanese ghost crawling around (also in "The Ring"). Can't they just fly like normal ghost? I wonder why they like the floor so much and why can't the main characters just step on them and trample them....

Mexico Trip update

Here are a few things that I observed or did during my medical volunteer trip to Guerrero, Mexico.

(1) In the US, you see Mexican on the roof, but in Guerrero, all you see is white guys on the roof! (The volunteers are fixing the roof)

(2) I get to see my first cataract surgery performed by Dr. Greg Claridy from Clear Lake. He actually met the dean of UT Galveston Medical School through his softball team and that help him get into medical school. Hmmm... maybe I should start playing some kind of sport.

(3) Mennonite (German immigrant to Mexico, http://www.mcc.org/themes/mennonites/index.html). They are very good at making cheese! The women of the clan/colony dress very plainly, because it's a sin to dress nicely, according to their religion. I examine this woman who looks about 35 but turns out to be 28, only three years older than me. I wonder if it is the flower dress that did it. But don't think for a minute that they are very strict on other things. Teenage pregancy (about 16-17 years old) are fairly common. Jean, the women that I volunteer with, joked that maybe since there is not much to do in the farm, they resort to having fun in the barn :P

(4) Polices and relatives of the governers/officials get special treatments when they came to the clinic for check up. They get to cut infront of all other people, but we let them do it because they help the clinic to run smoothly. Sigh.....

(5) Native Mexican Indians also came in for eye checkup. They dress in their best cloth and I love the color of their cloth, very bright. But the guy dress in very little clothing, maybe it's their culture, we had to ask him to put a jacket on :P

(6) Mexican won't sit with the native Mexican Indians, they think Indians carries diseases. We have to separate the seating area, very interesting...

(7) During the cataract surgeries, the blades (with plastic handle) are sterilized and re-used. This makes me realized how scarce the resources are over there.

There are other fun things, I will add more later. As for pictures, I am still waiting to send some film to develop.

Victoria's wedding reception 10/16/2004 Posted by Hello

Victoria's wedding

Victoria and Don got married yesteraday, congradulation to them! I met Victoria at my Kaplan MCAT class about two and half years ago. She is the sweestest girl I know and the cutest. I think she and Don dated for about 7 years and finally decided it's time to get married. Their wedding is at KimSon restaurant in downtown. The best part about their wedding is that when guest arrived at wedding, you get to take a picture with the newly wed couple with a beautiful background setting (like in prom!). The reception is a 8 courses dinner with desert. I was finished by the 4th one, very yummy food :) I had so much fun hanging out with Sapna, Nausheen and Victor (Nausheen's date). I also get to talk to Victoria a bit, so that's always nice. I will add pictures soon.

I am back from Mexico

I am back! Wow, the past five days has been really busy and passed by really quick for me. I am sooooo tired from the 13 hours work day for 4 days straght. Plus there is the late night dinner throw by the governer of Guerrero, Chihuahua, Mexico, that means at most I will get about 6-7 hours of sleep. It's a lot of sleep for the normal Carol, but in Mexico, working in the clinic Carol, I need a lot more than that :P But it's definetly worth it. I wrote down things I found really interesting and funny in Mexico and will post them tomorrow. For now, I am too tired and will have to go to sleep. I will again have to wake up early tomorrow to go to MD Anderson to fill out paperwork for my research job. I wanna sleep in soon......

TCOM interview

I just got back from my first medical school interview for this year :) Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth. Yi, Mom and I drove up last night to Fort Worth. It's about 5 hours to get there, so I am glad that they came with me. The hotel room is really nice and have internet connection, that's my favorite part. The interview went well today, nothing tricky about the questions they ask. The students are very nice and the facility is a lot better than I expected. They even have two Sym-man! I am happy my interview went well today. Now I am back home, but no rest, gotta pack for my Mexico volunteer trip now. I am leaving tomorrow and will be back on Wed, I will post pictures about my trip when I am back.

Thorn 15 Divas

I talked to Lynn on MSN messenger the other day and found out that she is working for Dr. Fletcher again. It was nice to find out that she is back in Thorn building again, even though it's not floor 15 anymore. Dr. Fletcher's lab is now on fifth floor. Talking to Lynn brought back a lot of good memory working in Boston. The Thorn 15 Divas are now all in different places. Anette has her own lab and is in University Pittsburgh. Nora is a second year medical school student in Loyola University. Felicity is also a medical school student, in Johns Hapkin University. Lynn is happily married and working on her thesis for her master's degree. I am very happy to talk to Lynn and it makes me miss everyone terribly. I talked to Anette a few times after I left Boston but haven't have the chance to talk/email Felicity and Nora much. Maybe I will write to them soon.

Bonkers! Posted by Hello

My very busy Saturaday!

Wow, it's 9:48pm and I just got home after leaving my house at 10am. My day is very fun and very compacted.

First, my good friend Liaw and his two friend - Ifan and Venessa came down from Austin to see the Holocaust meseum in Houston. I think they are doing a project about how to improve a meseum. Before we go to the meseum, we met up with Tracy and Vincent (from Wash U) for brunch in this Chinese northern style noodles/bread place in Chinatown. The food is very good and I have soymilk, the real one! I am very happy to find a place in Houston that have good breakfast style food. I am definetly going back there sometimes.

After brunch, we say goodbye to Tracy and Vincent and head over to the Holocaust meseum. It's smaller than the meseum in DC, but still have many exhibit. There is no special exhibit today, so we just browse through the main exhibition. It's very sad for me everytime I read about it. This meseum is donated/sponsered by Houston area Holocaust surviver, so a lot of it is about their families and they provide many pictures. In some way, it feels more personal. One new thing I learn today is that people were forced to work as labor in BMW plant, but I am not sure if it's the car or the airplane division. There is also a film that you can watch about the survivor recounting their experiences. It's very sad when one lady says that the hardest for her in life is that she "can not forget and cannot forgive." It's a very educational and emotional. Liaw and his friends think it will be nice if the meseum have models of the concentration camp for visitor to see.

We then head over to Galleria to kill time before I have to head over to a bachelorette party. There is so many people there in Galleria on Sat. I really don't like shopping when there is so many people. It's just too crowd for me. But I found out that the new Dior store is open and the store is very cute :) I will go back some other time just to window shopping more. I keep seeing all these fur collar/scarf in the stores and they are very cute. Right now, I have my eye set on the one in Banana Republic http://www.bananarepublic.com/browse/product/261/product_261366.htm?cs_catalog=BR%5FFall2%5FH1%5F2004&cs_category=202206. I also like this silk yellow shirt, http://www.bananarepublic.com/browse/product/258/product_258972.htm?cs_catalog=BR%5FFall2%5FH1%5F2004&cs_category=200808, it looks easy to wear under a jacket. I will think more about the fur collar, since it's so hot in Houston, I am not sure when I can wear it. I also see my all time favorite bear, BONKERS in the store today! I am so tempted to buy another one because he is just so cute. I am debating if I need to keep a backup one just in case any accident happens to my current Bonkers. Here is a link to see what Bonkers looks like http://www.bearst.com/bonkers.html.

I say goodbye to Liaw, Ifan and Venessa after Galleria and head over to downtown to attend my friend Victoria's bachelorette party. While drive to the restaurant, I ran into a crazy driver though. I was in the left lane and there is a left turn lane. The lady who is driving just keep driving straight when the light turned green. I keeping thinking she will turn left any second so I kept going, too. Finally, seconds before collision, I slam on my break when I realized she has no intension to turn but want to go straight. I was too stunned to even use my honk, should definetly do it next time.

I met Victoria two years ago when we took MCAT prep course in Kaplan together. She is so sweet and so much fun to hangout with. Andy met her before and he will totally vouch for me on this :) We went to Birra Poretti's in Houston downtown theatre district. It's a really cute place. I tried their spaghetti and meatball and it's one of the best that I have. Definetly have to go back for more pasta sometimes. Victoria's three bridemaids brought many props for her to start her night. First, we crown her princess with a fur tiara. Then, we made her wear a garter that later on during the night she has to ask a random guy to take it off. All the girls also got beads, so it kind of feel like Mardi-Gras :P There is this shirt that the bridemaid got with about 15 lists that Victoria has to complete before the end of the night. And everytime a guy perform one of the tasks, they get a bead. Our waiter, James, help Victoria completes her first task, which is to bend her over and spank her. It's very funny as Victoria is totally embarrased and finally, James only lightly did it with a napkin :P I will post a picture of it on here soon. Another waiter completed the second task, which is tell Victoria about his sex life. Well, I have to say the guy gets really into it and even act out his favorite sex position (he sits on a chair and the girl on top of him). I also have a picture of it while this guy is demonstrating this position, I will post it, too. Victoria's sister, Jacqline, brough a bottle of champagne to start the night. I have a sip of it, it's really good. After many laughter and fun, the dinner ends around 8:45pm and the group starts its night going bar/club hopping. I decide not to join the group since I have to drive and I live far away. I drove my friend Nausheen to her car and came home to Katy.

Wow, it is a long day, can't believed I typed this much :P Good night!

Hospital Volunteer

I am volunteering right now in Christus St. Catherine Hospital in Katy, TX. Things area bit slow here right now, that's why I have the time to write a post. There was a patient just checking in who had C-section last week. I was making a record of her ID and insurance when I realized she just turn 21! It was a shock because I keeping thinking people who are having kids are older. I forgot I am in my mid-twenty now, too. Interesting thing to think about now....

My very first Blog entery :)

Wow, I finally get my act together and starting this page. Yeah! Well, it's midnight in Houston, and I am watching TV while browsing websites. Specifically, I am shopping online for a yellow CZ ring. I saw one on the magazine and it looks so cute. If anyone has time, you can check it out at http://www.emitations.com/sajecayeczri.html?p=5. This one is too expensive, there is a cheaper one on Ebay. Ahhh, this is what I do when I have nothing to do, just shopping online too much :P Hopefully this behavior will stop once I start working in November 1st.
